Don't Call it a Come-Back, I've Been Here For Years.First session back since... uhh, October 21st. And the last one before that was... September 20th. Ish. Around there. And the last one before that was... uhhh, the beginning of september? I haven't kicked much since before worlds.
Any way, it felt like years had passed since i kicked last, so it was great to get out to erik's for a sessions. I was so excited to have time to kick i showed up to his house about 15 minutes early, way before he was ready to start. All his gear was still upstairs. Manna showed up after erik and i had started playing. When he pulled his toque off i razzed him about his budding afro. looks like he hasn't had a hair cut since july. "It's winter, i just keep it under a toque all the time anyway!". It was fun to get every one together again after so long.
I started slow, shaking the rust off for a while before i started playing freely. Oddly, i didn't feel as rusty as i did when we played outside last month. It could have been that it wasn't hovering just above freezing or that i'm finally getting used to the new climas (!!!). Nothing really noteworthy, i was just getting the feeling back for my regular tricks and seeing how much i have lost for the ones i'm not so great at. Because this was mostly a "have fun and ejoy kicking" session i abused my strong side moves alot and neglected my flip. So most of my runs are stuff like pixie ss whirl> schmoe> parkwalk> ripwalk. Nothing major for me, most of my runs were pretty sloppy and uninteresting. The only thing i was happy about was bs whirling swirl> tombstone (no bsos, i dropped the op side both times) and a run with a vortex deep into it (which is one of the hardest moves ever).
Erik was throwing down his usual slew of spinning, ducking and reverse whirling tricks. He had a bunch of really awesome runs. One that really sticks out was pixie rev whirl> blurry pickup> pixie rev whirl> blurry legover> pixie rev whirl> stepping mirage> pixie rev whirl>stepping rev whirl> blurry rev whirl> and then started in repeating on the other side.A nice stepping/ pixie rev whirl drill.
Manna is a straight up, cold blooded, footbag mercenary. Almost emotionless when kicking, maybe giving away that he liked the run at the end with a smirk, or quickly running to the camera to cover the lense. Alot of the time he busts really sick runs, drops and just passes the bag on, no indication that he was happy or disappointed with the run. he has a job to do, and he executes it with amazing precision. Every time i see him he impresses me. he hit a bunch of great stuff, but i'll let the video come out, or let manna list his own highlight before i give it all away...
i hope to get alot of studying done this week so i can kick again next weekend. Let's see if i can get it done...
