You get some good views from up on this roof...
Woke up and Dan and i put our heads together and planned our method of attack for the gutter business. We decided we would need buckets, gloves and breakfast. Especially the breakfast!
As we were departing the house Tammy approached us again. Right after i closed the front door it swang back open again. I think she thought we were skiving off our duties, but we quickly assured her we were going to get our kit for the job.
After getting our gear we started getting to work. We first attacked the gutter on the car park. Standing on a picnic table we dawned our gloves (dan's broke right away, what can you really get for 99 cents these days?) and reached up into the gutters, but it wasn't going well. First of all, this was probably the first time they had ever been cleaned in the house's history. Secondly, trying to clean gutters from well below makes for tough work. Thirdly, there was a mesh netting that was supposed to keep sticks and twigs out of the gutter that was now acting like a pin cushion, keeping them nicely trapped.
After a few false starts, the acquisition of a ladder, and a sunscreen break, we got back on track, beginning with the mesh removeal which really sped up the process. We finished that one and decided the middle of the day was a bad time to keep going so took another break. After lunch we got back to it. I eventually climbed up on the roof. A sketchy contraption was rigged up by balancing a ladder on the wobbly picnic table. The roof was crazy hot! i could only put my hand on it for 5 swipes at the gutter before i had to switch hands. After about 5 hours (5 hours!!!) we got them all finished. I couldn't believe how filthy my shorts got, and i had just finished my washing!
We had a kick after the guttering. It went pretty well, and dan and i spent alot of it giving each other challenges. The last one i got was blurriest> blurriest... and it took me forever! I don't know how many times i footed it without a seal. Damn you flip barfly!!!
The big thing for the night was the tennis final! Dan, Kate and I hit the wollorths to get snacks and beers for the event. We went to Rhy's place, who has quite a nice media set up with a big hdtv and surround sound speakers. We settled in, Cascade in hand, and watched the match. All the boys were rooting for Federer and Kate was urging on Nadal. I pulled out my support for federer about half way through when i realized he was going to lose. And he did. We didn't bother to stay around to watch the award presentation, we headed home, but like federer i hung my head and cried... What would i do at night now that the tennis was over???
